I love this M1 Mini but have noticed that about 5 gb of my 16 gb ram gets gobbled up at startup. Granted probably a chunk of that is the Adobe creative cloud ram guzzlers. I forgot to check it before installing the adobe stuff.

Can other Mini M1 users post what amounts of ram are used at startup prior to opening any programs? I am wondering if the 16 GB version behaves differently. If the 8 GB version used up 5 gb at startup that sure wouldn't leave much for later.

Thanks for any responses.

I've got the 8GB M1 Mini and here's what my memory looks like at startup:

I've got a few things that start automatically: 1Password mini, Snagit (screen capture util), etc. But that accounts for no more than approx 100 MB.

If the OS is doing its job then it finds some use for EVERY BIT OF RAM.

Unused RAM is a waste of resources and the OS tries not to let that happen. Notice that at the very least RAM can always be used to cache files.
