All depends on iOS5 really. We don't know how the final build will run on any devices yet. Cannot see it needing more though.

Game devs would love more though.

Agree with Applejuiced and company. No RAM is too much ram.

The main reason the iPhone has to freeze it's apps in the multitasking bar, and doesn't run them simutaneously, is due to lack of RAM. We really need at least 1GB of ram. As long as it doesn't boost the price of the iPhone i'm okay with it.

Cellphone RAM is crazy expensive.

The problem with your theory on multi-tasking is that Apple 'freezes' the applications because if left open the CPU would have to be working a lot harder to run them all. Not really a problem with the A5 BUT battery life is what we should be concerned about.

Dumb question. No one complains about having too much RAM. Everyone complains when there isn't enough RAM and what you can do with the device becomes limited because of a lack of RAM.

Seriously there can never be too much. As said above, it's about cost but anything less than a gig will be crippling it unnecessarily.

But it's not running them all, that's the point of freezing them. They aren't running, they're suspended. Battery life is not a concern here.

Read his post before making any. Hes saying if we had more RAM applications won't need to be frozen. I said if that were the case the CPU would be working a lot harder which results in bad battery.

I get that as well. I never said it was the SOLE reason, but obviously 512MB of RAM isn't enough to run 50 applications if you have them all open simultaneously.

Let's hope for a better battery ;) haha

If the iPhone 5 doesn't have more RAM I wont be that disappointed. I don't actually think the lack of RAM is a problem. I think it needs to have a duel core processor. I can work my iPad 2 a lot harder and I can have a lot of apps saved in memory (Real Racing 2HD, Twitter, Settings, Skype, Safari, Mail, Photos, Photoforge) and I don't have to kill any apps and they arn't killed either. My iPad 2 rarely gets sluggish, very rarely.

If the next iPhone doesn't have an upgraded processor then I will be disappointed.

If I were talking about the iPhone 4 I would of put iP4.. Not iPT4.

ok; it's easy to misread when you are using shorthand that doesn't really exist and you were talking about the phones in the paragraph, just so you know there is no iPT4... There is an iPod Touch 4 Gen which would be better to say iPT4G; even the jb community uses iPT4G...
Also, more RAM will probably be needed to run iOS5 smoothly if you want all the features; just look at the iPhone 3G and iOS4 debacle...

more memory requires more battery power

Actually the more ram in something the less power consumption it has on the battery :D. If we saw a 1GB RAM iPhone than the battery will be much more efficient.

There are two job positions.

One pays 50,000

Another pays 100,000 ( 2x more)

Which job would you choose? A person with common sense would choose choice 2. Same with RAM why would you want a 512 MB RAM when you can get 1 GB RAM??

I'd love the day when I open a program, switch from it; the next day I open it and it's right where i left it. Hell, I'd love to open that same program later in the day and it is right where I left it.

No such thing as too much RAM.

But I'm sure the iPhone 5 will have 1gig.

Nope, it would not come with weird numbers its either 512 MB RAM or 1 GB RAM.

Same with storage capacity, you won't see 24GB or 96GB.

The iPhone 5 should definitely have more RAM than the iPhone 4, so i'm hoping for 1GB.

How much RAM is too much? it depends on your situation, but i believe you can never have 'too' much RAM.

Except the Dodge Silverado.

Uh-huh. That's not how it works.

On a computer, too little RAM will slow you down, because the computer will swap on the hard disk.

iOS doesn't do that. If you have too little RAM, the programs are killed. Eventually even the one in the foreground will "crash".

Your slowdowns are caused by too little CPU power, buggy programs or bugs in iOS. But not because of too little RAM.

I immediately judged the ram to be the reason. The iPhone 4 has exactly the same processor + 512 ram and the experience is far superior when compared to the iPad 1. I have given up using the iPad because it's simply too slow for everything. Loading a webpage takes forever compared to my iPhone or macbook.

Umm.. that's a foolish example. It must assume all things are equal and with a pay difference that big. If the 50K job is say 35hours/week and the 100K job is 55hours/week, I'd take the 50K job and enjoy the better lifestyle.

But that's kind of the point of most answers. We all want more RAM, but not a ridiculous 2+gig of RAM cause it'll cost more than it's worth.

PS. at the guy who said 1GB of ram would be a ******* you to other phones, no it wouldn't. 1.5GB or 2GB might, but not 1.
