I bought the new 27" iMac and am trying to sell my old one. Could someone give me an estimate of what I should ask for my old one? Many thanks.

Take a look on Swappa.com for that configuration to get an idea of what it might be worth.

Off the cuff, I'd say it's probably worth about $100. It was discontinued almost seven years ago, though it still runs Catalina. But I don't think you should expect to get much, if you can even find anyone interested. You got your money's worth from it--enjoy the new iMac.

I would go for at least 400/(500)$ and believe 750$ is the Max. Catalina vs Big Sur should not be a big issue, there certainly is not an compatibility issue.

Upon further reflection, I think $100 is too low. Toine Hekman is probably closer to the true value. But your ability to get anything probably depends on how many interested buyers are near you. I think most people will want to see the machine in person before considering purchase. In a very large city, you might find someone. In a small town it will be harder.

I think SoulFlower will get more than $100. I'd go to ebay and see what they sell for there. (https://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_fro...TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=imac+2013+27+inch) You can also try Apple's official trade-in program. That offered me about $300 for my 2013 iMac.

$100??? For a broken 2010 iMac, maybe. For a working 2012 model, @Toine Hekman is probably on the mark.

Most of the recent sales on eBay are in the $250-350 range. The spinning hard drive is a factor in keeping the price down. Memory is very hard to upgrade also which affects resale price.

Apple has a trade in tool in some countries that may be worth trying. My loaded up 2015 5K is worth CAD$960 to them.

Is the hard drive still working? Mine failed years ago, and I got gray smudges on both bottom corners of lcd so I assumed it's unsellable

It is definitely unsellable as it is. You need to put in some added value
1. Cleaning
2. RAM upgrade
3. SSD upgrade.
4. GPU upgrade (if possible)
After that you won't want to sell it any more.....

Sellers in my city offered iMac 2012 with all those upgrades for 600$....
