As someone who works for an Apple reseller (and hence I sell macs to HEAPS of switchers) - I'd say a week or two to get things down.

Apple's Switch 101 website is good for a primer - for the nitty gritty things you're used to on a windows, then how to do them on a mac.

My best advice is to play as much as you can, and use the apple.com's support pages - they're heaps better than anything M$ gives you.

Now, I work in Australia, but I'm pretty sure its the case everywhere - but you can get 90 days worth of phone support when you first buy one - good for a last resort, and they're pretty helpful.

It really depends on how much computer experience you have, but most get to grips with the basics in about a week .. :)

I have a 2 1/2 year old son who uses Safari and Tux Paint and DVD Player on a G3 iMac as good as i do.

I always say this about Macs and OS X. The more you know about using Windows the harder it will be to use a mac because you have to 'unlearn' the stuff you have learnt due to the way Windows does things.

Such as when you stick in a USB removable drive. What you sitting there waiting for? You can use the drive already and What you trying to download a DVD playing codec for? There's one already there. It's the silly things that get you i think.

Completely new users could skip Windows and go straight to OS X and get stuff done in no time.

The basics are fine but I'm in a different boat to the others here, it took my several months of owning my first Mac, an iBook G4, to feel comfortable using it. Give yourself lots of time.

Took me <24 hours to feel pretty comfortable with it. But I still learn something new everyday, like I just learned where to put the screen savers, since I'd never needed to do that before, but today I did.

within a day or 2 you will have learnt how to do almost everything and then a couple more weeks just to learn little things that are not so obvious, but all in all Leopard is a very simple to use operating system for users.

You won't be disappointed on your purchase.
