I just called apple. I initiated my return today and have the same 19th date. I triple checked and was told as long the phone is scanned by fedex on the 19th the phone can be returned. She also said if I order the max and think its too large(my concern) I can just return the max and keep the pro and the return will automatically drop off my account. Hope this helps. I am in the US if it matters.
You get different information from different reps depending on their experience and knowledge. So I wasn’t informed if it was scanned on the 19th that it would actually count. If that’s the case that’s great. Because from everything else I’ve heard it was by the 19th. 💁🏻

Everyone should call in and ask. That way we can get a consensus on it. I got connected in about 2 min. Didn't take long at all.

Out of interest: I‘d like to see if I can get a 12 Pro with a better screen before finally deciding whether I‘ll keep the 12 Pro over my old 11. If I call Apple now and choose to get a replacement, will I then have 14 days again to return it?

Yes that's because of the Holiday Return period policy. I believe this year if you purchase something after 11/15/2020, then you have till 1/8/2021 to start the return process.

where are you getting that date from? (also annoyingly a couple days after mini/max launch so if you need christmas returns you have to gamble getting a ‘late but not too late’ delivery)

Just a guess since last year and the one previously started on 11/15 and I believe it's the purchase date not the delivered date. I remember last year when I purchased something on 11/14/2019 and got delivered on 11/15/2019, it did not qualify because I purchased it a day early.

I initiated a return on Sunday, UPS collected at about 11am on Monday and by about 3pm on Tuesday, Apple issued a refund. Solid service!
Amazon is great like that too. One time I hadn't even given the package to UPS yet, and I was already refunded

Agreed. Each rep may give you different results. For me, I will just play it safe and ship it out right away so that there is no issue.

Can you initiate a return online but then simply return it to a physical Apple store rather than shipping via FedEx?

YES. Return online to get the 14 day window and then use the Apple store option to walk it in as a Plan B. But remember if you go to an Apple store it’s usually an appointment only situation. So as I mentioned before if you’re getting too close to the deadline secure an appointment before that time

Yes in situation like this you get different results. I once was told if you initiate the return online, you can't return it to Apple Store. But tbh I did once and actually returned it through the actual store and they took it no issue.

I've even asked the store specialist and they even said that technically if you did request a return online, they will want you to return it online. YMMV

thanks. In that case I might go for a launch preorder as a ‘banker’ and then if supply isn’t too bad I could try and order one in mid-november and return the original.

Or try and buy from John Lewis who already have an extended return window.

Wtih me is that I was really hoping to compare it with my wife's mini before making up my mind. So that gives me a super tight return windows 11/19, so if the mini arrives on 11/13 late, then FedEx will be closed by then. Next business date is the 11/16 with 2 days shpping that's pushing it a bit. Last time, when I dropped off the my apple return, the people accidently put it into the ground pile and that caused a 3 day delay....

I am now starting to think I’m most likely keeping my 12 Pro. I’m close to certain. I did get the 45 day extension for returns information in writing from Apple. So, if I decide to try the mini, I feel safe in doing so.
