I spilled soda on the top of my phone a few months ago and it must’ve collected in the volume up button. It is very hard to press in. I tried spritzing some 100% alcohol solution in there a few weeks back but it didn’t do anything.

How much would Apple charge me to fix this issue? I really don’t want to buy a new phone over this... :(

Apple uses flat rate repair pricing.

Put it directly under running tap water (focusing on the buttons). As the water is running, press the buttons a few times. I’ve done this in the past and it unsticks the buttons OK

You might want to add there is a chance (even if remote) the water resistance could be compromised either by age or a number of other reasons and there's a possibility he'll completely destroy the phone..

It’s a XR, probably only a little over a year old. It’ll be fine. My 4.5yo Apple Watch Series 0 still is water resistant
