I am going to pay for what the retail price is. Questions like this are stupid because even if you would pay $200, the phone will still be what apple puts it as.

Preparing to pay $199 for an iPhone 3G from AT&T. If the subsidy turns out to be a hoax, I will seriously have to consider a free Tilt vs. a $400 - $500 iPhone. Hopefully we all find out on the 9th.
I have been on a sprint family plan for a little too long and I am ready to jump off and into a two year love affair with at&t. my area is covered in 3g and I have $800 in the iphone piggy bank, selling the 16gig IPT to give me a few free months of service.
This will be my first phone contract. if I figure $499 worst case price (no subsidy) + starting up a 2 year contract.
Anyone know what a current iphone costs to startup? I am just trying to get a ballapark on how much cash I will need to take to the AT&T store.
I probably would pay NO MORE THAN $499 for a 32GB iPhone. But remember, Apple intentionally released the iPhone $100 more than what they wanted when it first came out last June. So let's wait and see what they do this time, with the 32GB (assuming The Stevonator would release it.)
$100 more than they WANTED? What does that even mean?
They priced the iPhone 6 months before it came out. I'm sure the market research they did in those months, and following the early sales, let them know that they could charge less, sell more phones, and come out on top.
Here's an imaginary scenario: following an extremely successful launch, they got a bigger share of per-month-revenue from AT&T (as part of an earlier agreement) and decided they could afford to lower the price and make more on AT&T profit sharing.
I think they actually expected that consumers would be thrilled at the new, lower price. But, that was a bit of bad psychology there - consumers don't think they pay what they want. They think they're somehow being swindled into buying things they want with their own money. Damn those companies with awesome products! 🙂
