Not often, only when it tells you to, and only once then, if the problem persists take the camera in for repair. Head cleaners if overused can damage your camera's heads.

Also, you should try to stick to one brand of tape if you can.

Yes, be carefull of using cleaner tapes. They are a bit like running sandpaper over your heads. ONLY use when asked for by camera
