Keep in mind, 10.9 is not even in Beta yet!!! It's just a developer preview!

Beta 1 will come soon.

DPs to us are betas. Apple does not release anythingelse, there will be no public betas. Once Apple is happy with the DPs, they'll then go GM and release it as the official build.

That's how it has been for the past several OS releases.

A roes by any other name......:D

----------

I have 10.9 installed on an extra iMac but was thinking about installing (at some point) on my main Mac. I noticed this statement that has me concerned about instilling a future release. "You will need to have build 13A476u installed in order to see the Mac App Store Software Update...".

Will I still be able to (or must I) instal 13A476u now that 13A497d has come out (or even the next build)?

Well, perhaps I am mistaken. I was certain recent ML releases were named 10.8.4 Beta 2, etc. But maybe new versions are treated differently. It wouldn't be the first time I was wrong!

I am holding out for the next DP of Mavericks (and it's really hard to hold myself back)... how often does Apple usually take to go from DP1 to DP2?

There's no set schedule, when they have something they want developers to test and/or a new API to code for.

Strictly speaking, DPs aren't BETAs.

BETA software is feature complete - DPs often aren't.

They're more ALPHA software releases, intended to get developers able to make sure their apps work with the new OS on release.

Having say, OS X 10.9 or iOS 7 released and on day one half of the general public's apps break and no longer work would not be great.

Yes, sometimes they may have funky new end user features.... but having end users play with them is not *really* why apple release them.

Because you are talking about software updates, and we are talking about upgrades.

Apple does not release betas of their OS X upgrades, they release DPs of upgrades and seeds of updates.

The media often uses betas in place of seeds, so 10.8.4 seed 2 = 10.8.4 beta 2.

Cool, thanks for the confirmation and I officially stand corrected! :)
