I've never "redone" an iPad. I've had most models, and just restore the new one from the backup of the previous model and keep going. No issues whatsoever. Just don't see the need to "redo" them.

Agreed. Do and done. No need for any "re-"

As a recent IPad PRO 12.?, owner- I had a situation where the game "Hearthstone" was stuck in "update" mode (where the timer icon shows activity happening). Rebooting the device, reconnecting to WiFi- nothing kickstarted the process to finish. This went on for days. Finally, I tried to uninstall it. It didn't let me remove the app because it was still in update mode. So in the end- I just reset and reloaded everything.

I was surprised by the experience because other than that- IOS has been a solid experience. One aspect I'm annoyed by is that if I download an app, try it (and not happy with it), there is no way to remove it from my library. I can remove it from the device(s), but it'll always be part of my app library. Anyway- getting off topic. Cheers~

I believe you can hide them, but my little bit of OCD also doesn't like the fact that you can't disown (is that good english?) them

I do not think I have ever done it. I keep my iPad clean and lean. I always restore via iTunes with an encrypted backup and never have a problem.

Why would you redo your device?
Is what you describe not re-doing it? You basically erase everything, install a fresh OS and re-apply your backup.

nah, meh, mwah, yeah, I know what you mean, but this is when you buy a new device and you have no other option but o restore a backup.
But a full redo would not have a backup put back, but start from scratch and reset all settings by hand to your liking and download all apps completely new from the store.

What? I am not the one "redoing" but When you reset to factory your iPad or iPhone the OS is existing and you do not "install a fresh copy". The only time I have used my encrypted backup is when I have a new device replacing the old one. I have never had any problems nor a need to "redo" any of my Apple devices so far.

Every time you restore via iTunes, iTunes will make sure you run the latest version of iOS. It will automatically retrieve the latest version of iOS if your system is out of date.

In any restore case, iTunes will wipe the device, install the latest version of iOS and then apply your existing backup.

Sorry but the way you worded it it sounded like the user was to install the OS.

Never. Restore from iCloud when I take any shiny new iPad out of its box and then just use it. Haven't had an issue where I've had to do a complete wipe and restore on years, so long ago I couldn't tell you when.

Actually that's a lie, I wipe them before I sell them.
