How often do you restart?

I have a 3GS. I was just curious how often you have to restart your iPhone. I have found that I often have to restart bc the phone can't lock on to 3g (restart fixes it, but it's annoying). However I had to restart it the other night bc the accelerometer wasn't working.

I've had the phone for a little over a month, but it just occured to me I'm restarting it way more than my past (non-smart) phones so I thought I'd find out how often was normal/average.

Thanks.

Well, restarting fixed the accelerometer issue. I assumed the OS gets a litle buggy until you restart so I didn't think much of it at the time

I'll try to keep track of how often I restart starting now

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Aside from restarting after app installs...1-3 times a day.

Restart it when i feel it needs it .... generally though it can be several weeks between restarts .... sometimes i'll install a new app which seems to be struggling without a reboot ...

I've restarted my phone 4 times since I bought it in December. The fourth time was installing the firmware update and the other three times occurred when GPS-tracking apps appeared to freeze while trying to get a lock (and those issues were solved with updates to the apps). Otherwise the iPhone I have has worked flawlessly....

Thread title of the day! :D

Anyway, OP, to answer your question, I do not even have the need to restart my 3GS at all since day 1 of purchase.

I restart mine (turn off/on) about once every two weeks or so. I do a reset every couple months (usually when upgrading firmware). Had one time I had to do a hard reset after an app cause major problems.

At my Genius appt. last week I was told to turn it off/on daily, which was a surprise to me. I took in my 3GS because it started quickly draining the battery every few days. Most days were fine, but some days I get home with 8% left (no change in useage pattern). Historically I never turn it off unless an app goes nuts which doesn't happen often anymore.

The Genius was emphatic about it. He said he spoke with an Apple Engineer who was surprised that the Genius wasn't powering his off daily. I've received good information from this Genius before, but...

So anyway, don't shoot the messenger (and I'm still not powering off daily). :)

I shut my phone when I go to bed every night, then turn it on in the morning as soon as I get up usually for about 7 hours. I have not had any trouble and maybe twice in 8 months I had to restart the phone because coming off WiFi I could not connect to 3G, but so far it works well for me.

It makes me feel like I am giving my battery a rest although you can not charge your phone with your phone off anyway.

How often do you restart?

I restart mine when I get on airplanes and when upgrading the firmware - that's it. Since I've owned the phone (last summer) I've maybe restarted it twice not for the above reasons.

I restart mine when it freezes up or runs slowly, once every 2-4 weeks. Even if my phone rang in the middle of the night I might not answer, so maybe I should be shutting it down nightly so it lasts longer on standby...? hmm....

I thought it would be bad considering how fickle the batteries get to not turn it off and on everyday. I am also considering dwindling performance when a specific cell gets burned out from always being on.

I keep my 3GS on for weeks at a time. Always on, day & night. I reset maybe once every 6 weeks or so.

Maybe once a week - usually when I am leaving it somewhere for an extended period and it's not plugged in (just to save battery). I never restart it to fix something.

Usually only if I notice that mail isn't pushing correctly. Sometimes I'll do it if my signal here at home drops below 4 bars (it's at 5 bars probably 99% of the time), but that's pretty infrequent. So I guess I restart maybe once a week, if that.

I try to remember to reboot it once a week for maintenance purposes ... but I often forget. Mine probably gets rebooted more like once every two weeks on a regular basis, and there's only been a couple of times since I got it in the summer that I felt it especially needed it (problematic app; difficulty getting signal; not pushing as it should).
