Doesnt it also matter what mbp you bought? If you buy it max specced, it can last you longer than an entry model mbp
 
I upgrade when the old computer can't perform the tasks I need to do. With memory and SSD upgrade, my late 2011 is doing just fine after more than 3 years. It replaced an older 17" that could only take 3gb of ram which was a killer for some of my uses. I don't see replacing my current MBP for a couple of years or until the GPU dies.

You can get the Radeon chip fixed until 02-2016... But tou knew thst already I guess.

Just like you I still use a 2011 MBP. 2.2 i7, 16gb RAM and SSD. It's fast enough! But I'm looking at a retina upgrade next year. 5 years is long enough
