After reading through the thread, I think there is a slight misunderstanding with the DVD titles labeled [HD] (maybe I'm mistaken, and please correct me if I am).
When I initially read this thread, I kept wondering to myself how are these guys ripping HD-DVD and Blu-Ray movies? In the current market, there is only one external, USB Blu-Ray playable drive for computers, and even at that, there is no software available that reads Blu-Ray videos. As for the HD-DVDs, there is obviously the Xbox 360 add-on that can be purchased, and with a parallel desktop or boot camp, one can actually play HD-DVDs on a mac.
After doing some reading and especially after seeing the most recently posted tutorial on ripping DVDs using Handbrake, it seems as though it is apparent that the best available rips of DVDs through various sources are in fact regular DVDs and
not "HD" or "Blu-ray."
If this is not correct, please correct me and tell me how it would be possible to rip a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.
Thanks!
**EDIT: After some more searching, I've found some software such as Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra that can read HD-DVD and Blu-ray formats. But a drive that can read HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray discs are still required to do the actual encoding. Also, I have found a few such files of people figuring out ways to copy the main video file from HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs, but these files are about 5GB to 15GB in size. All of that said, these formats can not be read in iTunes even with Perian installed. **
