A 15” Air is far more likely, based on rumors.

There was talk of a 12” model being in the works, but that was in the context of it being a “Pro” model, and it’s been most recently stated in the rumor mill that a 12” is not even actually in the works.

12" screen size is actually in iPad territory isn't it? If only iPad OS was better or had a 'Pro Mode' :)

there are rumors of a 12" macbook (so, rumors means just that), and talk of 'late 2023 or early 2024'.

my 12" macbook is my fave mac of all time. if a new one happens, it's mine. until then, there's the air, a pretty-decent substitute. right now, am still on my 2016 (!) 12" macbook, it still works, butterfly keyboard and all. and i'm on this thing 12 hours a day...

but it's time for me to get a macbook that doesn't have to be hand-cranked to start up. it is 2022...

What are you getting instead?

If Apple drops M1 MBA and releases 12" M2/M3 as their cheapest laptop in their lineup, then 12" is possible within year or two.

I think what it really depends on is the mindset of people who could make it happened. I personally would not leave anyone alone about this at Apple if I had any say. Others may be Meh.

The 11" was incredibly cool. It had that Air wedge shape. Make that today, they would line up. Todays Air is a clunky monster in comparison. ( I really like threads like this. Should be a sticky :))

Btw, Samsung is into stuff like this.

I'd definitely be into a 12" if it was a modernized version of the original 12", and assuming the screen would be something more like a 12.4" screen. It would need to fit in the newer, taller, Magic Kebyoard; IIRC, the butterfly keyboard was born out of thinness of the original 12" design.

I'd buy this in a heartbeat. I loved my 12" MacBook. As it stands, my next computer will likely be an Air. I'm probably still a couple years away from needing to upgrade, though. Maybe longer.

The 11" Air was considerably thicker at its thickest point (0.68") than the M2 Air (0.44") and weighed almost as much (2.4 vs. 2.7 lbs).

Air weighs 2.9lbs. What is your point? That the new Air is similar? :D

Obviously, back then things were different. All things considered, that sort of thing. Right? No need for elaboration.

Improbable because guys like Ross Young have visibility into the display supply chain of at least 18 months.

If he says a 15-inch is coming and 12-inch isn’t, probably best to believe him.

???

You said that the current Air is "is a clunky monster in comparison" to the 11" Air. If you really want to say that a laptop that weighs 0.3 lbs more and is thinner, overall, is a "clunky monster in comparison," feel free. I wouldn't.

all rumors are rumors. i find them interesting (& the 12" macbook rumor has me, at least, hopeful), but will wait until it appears in the real world before i get too excited.

between the rumors, people's mockup images, and the general mayhem of the web... i stay calm. at least until the next apple event 🤣
