I have an iPhone and soon the iPad. I was planning on setting up my email on both. My iPhone is with me 24/7 and is password protected so no prob there. But my iPad is mostly going to be home for all to enjoy, or at least not with me 24/7. How is everyone in this same senario going to protect their email accounts from snooping eyes?

Are you just not going to set up email at all?
Are you going to remeber to password protect you iPad when you leave and therefore, no one else can access/use it?
Turn the account off everytime you leave and hope no one else knows how to turn it back on?
Just take the iPad with you every time you leave and hope it doesn't get lost/stolen?
Buy everyone in the family their own stinkin' iPad? $$$$$
Forget about making it a coffee table device and just a one user device. THIS IS A SHAME.
This is starting to bother me. I guess it can't be a coffee table device if this bothers you or you just won't have email on your iPad! Just your personal phone.

This is not going to be a problem for me. I happen to associate with people I trust and have nothing to hide from, and if I'm not with them and am around people I don't know, the ipad will stay clutched in my sticky little hand or in my bag which is never left unattended.

But I imagine someone, whether it is Apple in the future or a third party solution, will devise something that will sort that thorny issue out for you.

A great excuse for seperate user accounts on the iPad. Log in with your password to see your own apps/email/bookmarks/etc., then log out when passing it to another family member/user. No knowing until we see one, but do you imagine Apple was smart enough to realize the usefulness and privacy rights of what is likely to be a multi-user device?

I sure hope you are right!
As yet, I have not heard of anyone knowing about seperate user accounts though.
    Here's hoping!

Yes, and that's why it's not there. Each person needs a separate device = more sales.

It'll come in future generations when other companies release similar products with user account facilities.

Not an issue for me. No one is going to be allowed to touch my iPad anyway.

Maybe parental controls will let you limit access to e-mail. Otherwise you could save a Gmail (or other service) link to your home screen and use that instead. Log in each time.

Especially in Google's case, I'm sure they'll have a pretty iPad-specific interface up before long.

    Lol same here.

Like others have said, if you are really that concerned about privacy just check your email through safari. I'm sure it wont take long before many websites have iPad formatted sites. Sure it wont be as sleek as the mail.app but you gotta make some sacrifices for privacy.

I will have a password on my iPad. My wife will be the only other person using it, and she has my passwords.

The multiple user thing is an issue for me - which is why there are now 2 other Touches in the house for the 3 kids to share. Depending on how my use with it goes, i might not set up email on the iPad and just use it via the web.

I'd like to see user profiles or some sort just for this reason (and I've already sent feedback on it awhile back).

The kids have been good about staying out of my stuff on my Touch (they don't use the first page), but still, i'm not excited about a device that i know will get shared being so open.

Oh well, i'll sort it out!

The only time someone would be using it when I'm not around would be my wife and I am not getting any emails I wouldn't be comfortable with her seeing.

Other than that it would be at home with people I would trust to not snoop through my stuff...

If it came to it I would put a password on it ... my iPhone locks after 5 minutes and erases after 10 incorrect guesses.

But now that you bring this up there definitely is a good reason to have at least a public profile and private profile
