personally i'm not too worried about any software features that are missing (mms, cut/paste, etc.) i'm confident that apple will eventually sort this out. maybe with 2.3 :)

would have been nice features -
- a front-facing camera, not having one limits some of the iPhones potential. (ichat iphone would have been an awesome app. i would have loved to see what third-party dev's come up with using this as well.)
- 5mpx camera
- 32gb
- bluetooth a2dp (but maybe this can be fixed with firmware/software update?)

overall i gave the 3g iphone a 7/10. could have really wowed me and got a 10 with the above :)

I would say I am a 7/10, if they had video conferencing I would have been a 9/10

9/10 (wish it had video recording and apps running in the background like AIM)

The fact that I'm going from a 4GB scratched iPhone to a new 16GB iPhone 3G makes me happy. I only expected 3G and got GPS as a bonus.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is the release date. That's what really made me mad. It's hard going on without this device.

how about we all just wait for it to be actuall released before we start complaining abotu it

its not our fault that -
- apple are so damn secretive, and don't tell us what we NEED to know
- we have nothing better to do

and even if we are complaining, i think most suggestions are valid areas where apple could have done better.

i suppose we can all dream that they spring some last min "surprises" on us, but it's doubtful!

I don't understand how people can judge the phone at all if it hasn't even been released yet, now maybe you are making your judgement on the pricing, issues with the plans and such, but com on people, until they have been released and you have actually tried and used the phone, how can you truly have a feeling on it. You may find that the difference is speeds between EDGE and 3G might make up for any other features left out.

average i guess.

- i was expecting a 32GB (which i'm sure will be introduced later after everyone has bought the 16GB) apple's stick it to their loyal customers strategy is becoming pretty predictable now.

- the front looks exactly the same as the previous model, they could have switched it up a little in order to distinguish the models other than the plastic back. its like they threw on a back cover and that was it. you expect more creativity from apple

- I have navigation in my car so i probably will never use the GPS feature

- I dont browse heavy enough for 3G to really change my life

- the software is going to be pretty much the same as the first gen when everyone upgrades to 2.0

- AT&T is going to charge an extra $10 a month

I'm usually a sucker for the latest and greatest but looking over my list i wouldnt exactly call this greatest.

but still given that we know -
- there is no front facing video camera = no video chat 3g / ichat iphone
- how big 16gb is due to past experience with devices with storage

i think some of the complaints can be considered acceptable/valid.

i agree its unfair to be too harsh, on things like specs for the camera, the blutooth spec used, software features etc until we know more.

i suppose the point is that when assessing some aspects of the 3g iPhone's "satisfaction," that we do have enough to go on so far.

Wirelessly posted (PPC; 240x320; HTC_TyTN/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.7))

I'm sure it's safe to say the OP is asking us how satisfied we are with what has been announced, and on that we can comment, also, since the 3g is much the same as the original makes it that much easier to rate it....

9/10 (wish it had video recording and apps running in the background like AIM)

Apps like AIM will use Apple's new push notification service, so they aren't "running" in the background, but they will still work the way you expect them to, without killing your battery life.

Video recording will certainly be added with third-party apps (some free I'm sure).

We were sure about alot of things, but they didn't end up happening.

Anyways, yeah I know push notification is coming, sucks that we have to wait 3 months...but as long as it is getting worked on I guess

-Dock 1 point for AT&T's rate plan.

-Dock 1 point for the cheaper materials.

-Dock 1 point for lack of any significant new technologies 1.5 years after it was announced.

-Dock 1 point for still not having three basic functions: copy & paste, horizontal keyboard, and video recording.

-Add 1 point for the $200 price point.

-Add 1 point for the incremental improvements in call quality and battery life.

So it's a 8/10 for me. The built-in GPS is going to be a lot more useful than people realize. So many apps will offer location-based services. And the 3G network capability is a no-brainer. Can't imagine a phone in this modern day, with all the internet-use apps that are on the iphone, to not have fast downloads.

It will probably be more like 2 months (July 11th -> August -> September), but it is kinda a bummer that it won't be out with the App Store...

Yeah true counting it from the release of the iPhone is better, but for all we know Apple might push it back a few weeks. (Late february meant early march, late june meant almost mid july)

it's gonna be a bog standard phone yet again but im looking forward to the new apps and also mobile me

like the look of the white finish and the fact that its now going to be 3g and obviously gps on there which will be cool as the phone has a big screen on it. looking forward to mobile me also and the app store though i hope they arent ridiculously priced.

still lacking mms support however, could have been a much better camera on there, even if it didnt have flash on there they could still have integrated atleast a 3.2 mp camera for us. out on p&g which is another bonus though not sure how they will stop people from box breaking on the pay & go handsets.

I would have liked to see a better camera along with video recording capabilities but in terms of that whole "Front-facing camera" for video conferencing I think that's expecting a little much and it doesn't really bother me either way since I don't live in a 3G area.

Edit: Cut & Paste would also be really nice

Pretty nice but I wish it had MMS (maybe a dying technology, but is far from dead at this point), video recording (an app should cover this though), TURN-BY-TURN navigation (hopefully Apple will change this), and a less smudge-able case (I don't want a bulky case taking away from the looks of the phone).

No cut and paste and no Flash support dock it to 8/10 for me. Still quite happy and just waiting on what the Rogers/Fido (canadian) rate plans will be.

App store, GPS, 2.0, and MobileMe are worth the cost for me.

3G is nice, though I'll try to switch between 2 and 3 now and then, just so the battery life doesn't drain so much....not that my LG has any better battery life.

I, too, would have liked a 32 gig iPhone, but 16 gigs is still quite a lot. I know I have about 4-5 gigs of music that I don't regularly listen to, so I can just pick and choose.

8/10. I nix 1 point for the plastic back and 1 more point for no 32 gig.
