I am going to buy a new phone, but I don't know if I choose XS MAX or XR. How do I choose?

-------------------

I am very grateful to everyone for their comments. On Sunday I went to the Apple Store to compare XR and XS MAX. In the end, I couldn't help but buy XS MAX, which really attracted me.

I purchased the XS MAX 256G, white, and its screen is really great and too clear.

Go to a store and try both. Major differences in specs are the display technology (LCD vs OLED), camera (Max has +1 telephoto lens, main camera is the same, front camera is the same), smaller bezel all-around for the Max, bigger size for the Max and lastly stainless steel frame for the Max vs aluminium on the XR.

Good luck.

Have you handled either one of these phones yet? I’d probably first make my decision to find out what’s comfortable in your hand, because they are fairly large phones. The major differential being with the Max is that includes 3D Touch, the dual camera and an OLED display. Otherwise, both phones are significantly comparable to each other.

Look at photos on the XR and you will see they are blurry, you may even think like me that you need glasses but switch to an 8+ or the Xs Max and you will see it’s not your eyes it’s the cheap screen of the xr that is the same as the 6,7 etc

Yeah of course, the 8 7 6 6S SE 5S 5C 5 4S and 4 was unbearable too. All cheap blurry panels. First good iPhone was the X, rest are garbage.

Like, wtf is this thread about? How can you live?:) what do you believe other members will tell you? I do understand that somebody needs others opinions (me too) but without any information about usage, your preference and so on, this thread is gonna be useless bunch of others preferences...

I was a fan of the Xr until last night.

My friend gave me her iPhone so I could correct the spelling of something on her phone, and not being able to use 3D Touch to position the cursor where I needed to really irked me.

(I understand there’s a software method for it but I’m not interested in that)

Space bar is how you do it on xr and I agree it sucks compared to 3D Touch

Nice to hear you agree

iPhone XR starts at $749.
iPhone XS Max starts at $1099.

You will have to think about how you use your current phone and how you would plan to use the XR or XS Max, is it worth the extra cost for you?

A few months ago I posed basically this same question. Per the poll, it's was almost evenly split:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/xr-vs-xs-max-is-the-xs-max-really-worth-the-extra-350.2156691/

For me, I'm still very happy with the XR. Sure I'd love the extras from the XS Max. But the battery life on the XR is absolutely amazing. Never worry about it. Also, since we are about mid-cycle to the next releases in the fall, I'd definitely pass on the XS Max at this time if you absolutely had to buy right now.

Had an Xbefore - up until early 2019, fast forward to present I have an XR.

The screen - it isn't noticeable unless the X/XS/XS Max are side by side, same with the bezels. It does the job.

The 3d touch - barely used it on previous models so it wasn't important.

Camera - it works great, and I tend to pixel peep

Battery - best out of any iPhone I've owned

It is hefty in the hand

Good luck

I have time to go to the Apple Store next Sunday, thank you for your reply.

Thanks for your investigation, XS MAX is really great, but I am not very good at using it, XR should be competent.

You can just press and hold the space bar and move the cursor anywhere.

I am always amazed that a lot of people mentioning the Xs Max as ''the best iPhone''.

These people probally mean; the Xs Max is the most un-ergonomics iPhone ever created by Apple

My wife is using XR, I think it's black edge is too ugly.
But its price is too attractive to me.:confused:

That’s strictly a personal opinion. It’s not "un-ergonomic", and that’s my opinion.
Remember young Padawan, you are not the whole world.

Technically the XS Max is the superior phone, you can't argue that fact. The question you have to decide yourself is if it is worth the extra money for the superior features?

Better is subjective, whether the:
-Dual lenses
-better portrait mode
-oled
-memory
-3dt etc
Is worth the price difference, is up to you.

One way I use my Xs Max that maybe useful to know is when browsing the YouTube app I 3D Touch the picture of the video and choose add to watch later. I scroll down the pages adding videos this way and then watch them later in my watch later playlist either on my MacBook Air or my Apple TV.

I LOVE 3D Touch!
