Figured I'd better install the 10.5.7 update first and finally got to that--and so I just installed Safari 4 and so far it seems just fine and maybe a bit snappier too. I've not had any major issues with it. I did seem to have trouble getting into my credit union but I run into problems like that from time to time anyway. I use both FF and Safari but Safari is my primary browser and I'll keep it so. :)

Is ANYONE able to visit this site on safari 4 without crashing or is it just me?

http://store.apple.com/

This among other sites crashed Safari 4 continuously so I am a temporary user of Firefox 3.5 until Apple fixes Safari.

Then can anyone explain to me why Safari 4 release crashes on the store.apple.com site, among a lot of others?
Safari 4 beta never did. On the Apple support forums, some others have complained about this. Could it be some sort of JAVA problem? I am completely up to date on all software updates....

Personally I have no crashing issues with Safari 4 or Firefox 3.5. I use plugins and extensions which I make certain to keep up to date. I know many others here have crashing issues with Safari 4 but I really have no idea why. Maybe some obscure plugin/input manager is causing a conflict somewhere. I use Safari 4 most of the time now, but I have noticed that Firefox 3.5 does use the cache much more efficiently. For me, both are stable...YMMV.

lie, in below aspects its slower than firefox.

1. the urlbar of safari is not smart enough to help users reaching the websites theywant, firefox can save them up to 15 seconds here.
2. build-in FAYT in firefox save you 1 second
3. drop down menu with list of most visited websites at urlbar save mice users another 1-15 seconds.
4. allowing users to download different files into different folders save another minutes or so since users don't need to later go through every folder to re-arrange their downloads
4. search among large amount of downloads in download manager save users potentially <1 minute to 20 minute, depends on how many downloads you have since last time clearing the list.
5. DNS problem with safari will delay users for unknown amount of time, rare situation tho.
6. ability of saving more than one pair of usernames/passwords on same webpage save many users at least 10 seconds
7. notification bar for passwords remembrance save users unknown amount of time when they got the password wrong.
8. able to handle ftp protocol directly save users another 1-10 seconds
...
...

or you think those time isn't time?:p you have been spreading too much misinformation already, your "all aspect" is only supported by a JS test and derived from your own personal experience which many people previously told you that may be a problem with your own computer. Its quite irresponsible for you to make such statement like you made above, it really amounts to slander.:)

why? because I will tell him/her to try out firefox 3.5 today? Did I ever deny a problem of firefox if its true? Pixel scrolling is fixed in firefox 3.5, you dont want him/her to be informed about this? :D

To OP, generally safari should be stable enough for day to day use. you might want to do a reset of safari and see if it helps.
Shame most of those are useless, and Safari rendering pages a second or two quicker every time will add up to much more over a day.

I don't use drop down lists. Irrelevant.

I use cyberduck for FTP, FireFTP and all the integrated ones suck. Irrelevant.

Most people don't have more than one account per site. Irrelevant.

URL bar is not smart enough. Are you retarded? Type in a damn URL like a normal person. How is it not smart enough? URLs are URLs, it's definitely "smart" enough to direct me to a site. And how the bloody hell does using Safari's URL bar take fifteen seconds. On Firefox, I type "www.macrumors.com ENTER" on Safari I type "macr ENTER". Safari seems faster as I type less. Point both irrelevant and wrong.

I don't know what FAYT is. This tells me I'd never use it, or it's at least irrelevant for me.

I want my downloads in my downloads folder, not in some other folder. Point irrelevant.

I keep my downloads organized, nor do I download much so I do not need to search for them. Irrelevant.

Wow, I must say I was hoping you'd make at least one point correct. You sound like a beat-up fanboy who can't get his facts straight. You like Firefox, we get it. I prefer Safari, it's proven to be faster in page rendering, and while it doesn't have a plethora of useless add-ons that I'd never use, AdBlock and Glims do more than what I'd ever need.

Stop being so foolish and realize different browsers are made for different people. Firefox isn't made for everyone, that's why a lot of us like Safari, it just fits into OS X better.

poor guy.

stop mouth off without any experiences. you don't use the features i mentioned? fine, then stop commenting on them, how can anybody comment on something they don't use? absurd logic is beyond me.

safari is proven faster in page rendering? where is the proof?

you dont need other addons? fine, who the hell give you right to tell others they dont need it?

beat up fanboy? your statements sure sounds more than fit :p

My Safari 4.0.1 goes up to 11!

It rocks.

... and Safari rendering pages a second or two quicker every time will add up to much more over a day.

 ridiculous :)

I have just encountered a short unintended blind test on arstechnica
and his result tells more or less everything:

I opened FF 3.5rc2 a couple of days ago to get something done on a Webkit-incompatible page and simply forgot that I’m in Firefox until 30 minutes later where one of my shortcuts seemingly stopped working. (this was using the Grapple skin of course)

So yeah, I have to admit that I can no longer notice a difference in rendering speed between Safari 4 and FF 3.5.

Cheers

*sigh*

I'm saying that YOU are presenting irrelevant features that few use as if they're mainstream and on everyone's computers, and that's why Firefox is faster. That's why I'm commenting on them, because you super-imposed them as if everyone uses them. Few do, so fact is the "speedy pluses" that you put forward are nothing more than irrelevant add-ons?

Faster? See benchmarks. The difference is noticeable, despite what one journalist might see.
