How strict is Apple re Applecare after 1 year?

If it was 1 year and 2 days would they say no?
What if it Applecare was purchased within 1 year but I couldn't activate in time because shipping took an extra few days?

You should be ok as long as you can prove you bought it within the 365 days.

AppleCare will also sometimes make exceptions to their you-must-purchase-within-one-year, but ONLY if you call them
