I pride myself on keeping phones in really good condition. Alas my ego got the best of me. I took the case off recently to clean the dust, and left the bare phone on the arm of my couch. My slippery glass-backed Space Grey iPhone 8 slid off and hit the ground, leaving a small chip in the paint right where the screen meets the casing. The screen itself is fine. Will Apple give me a hard time when I trade the phone in? Is there any kind of paint (or even sharpie?) you guys have found which is helpful to conceal these kind of paint chips?

Shouldn’t be that much of an issue. The big thing they will be looking for is the display is not cracked/is functional and no severe damage to the device. If you decide to correct it yourself, make sure it’s a neat/clean looking correction, otherwise it will stand out even worse.

I'm a lot like you when it comes to the condition of my phone. Not knowing the extent of the chip, I will say that I've seen phones traded in and have been surprised by what I'd call "poor" at best. One thing I do recommend is not attempting to "fix" it yourself. Just leave it be, you should be fine, also it wouldn't hurt to go to Apple or get them a pic of the chip just to clarify their policy/procedure regarding chips.

Probably not, though there are no guarantees. Last year I gave them a 12.9" iPad Pro that had a distinct dent in one corner (fell off a bench onto a tile floor and landed on the corner). The screen was fine and the iPad worked perfectly. No comments from the Apple staff member who helped me.
