6ft/183cm and my girlfriend is 5'1/155cm...which makes things a bit interesting. Kissing while standing requires neck-bending exercises from me or standing on tip toes from her (usually a combination of both). We find it easier to remain seated. :p 11in/28cm is a lot of ground to cover.

Not a huge problem, but it is something to consider for people who wish they were a lot taller. Single benefit: I can easily rest my chin on the top of her head. :D

My wife is only about 5'9". But if she stands on a stair we're even. :)

Whoa serious ;) Must be a typo, cause that is tall. I'm around 190 something and I think that is tall. Still 17 so have some more growing left in me. Although I hope I don't get another growth spurt.

6'2" ~182 lbs., 27 yrs old...so, who's going to collate this data?
Me!! I have just reached your post and I am collating everything as I write this. It's quite intersting so far - there are some seriously tall (and young) Americans out there; must be the healthy diet you're all on.
Pity that there is not 100% answer-rate on age, sex and location. Although I am bored, like the originator of this thread, I am not bored or interested enough to check everyone's details on their profiles.
But bear with me a little longer and I shall post the results of what I can squeeze out of the posts. This is all so sad.
And I am 6'0"

Collation of heights of macrumors members.

There have been 115 posts that give the answer to the question "How tall are you".

I have collated all of the readily information given on these posts and analysed them to provide an age/sex/height set of figures. The numbers were crunched using Excel (on a PowerBook G4) and ---- and I must admit that this is the very first time that I have needed OS 9 Classic running on my machine. I live, professionally, by StatView but I am here in New Zealand and not at home in the UK where my other machine is and which does have StatView installed. Excel's OK for children, but for real stats, it is a no-hoper. Whatever, I have done the best I can with what I have. So here goes.

All numbers are given in cms (converted to Imperial where I think clarity can be added) and generally take the form of Averages (means) with the Standard Deviations (SD) and Standard Errors about the Mean (SEM) following in Italics.

Of the 115 posts, 9 (7.8%) were from stated, or overwhelmingly inferred (possibly a mistake, but we're all friends here, not so?), females; all of the others were presumed to be males.

The shortest person was a (stated) female, height 5'1" (155cms) and the tallest an inferred male of 6'11" (211cms)

The height of the total responding population was 179.31 cms (SD=10, SEM=0.93). This equates to an average height of 5'10" --- and never mind the imperial SDs and SEMs.

The average height of the "known" females was 167cms (SD = 11, SEM = 4) or, in Imperial, 5' 5.8".

Excluding the females, the height of the males was, then, 180.35cms (SD=9.29, SEM=0.90) equating to an average height of 5'10.99" - can we agree that is 5'11"?

There is a graphical representation of the height distribution by frequency; I THINK it is somewhere as an attachment, but I don't know what I am doing now - gone brain dead.

74 posters gave their age; the average age of the whole group was 21.99 (SD = 7.81, SEM = 0.91) of which the known males, n=70, had an average age 22.01 years ((SD = 8, SEM = 0.96) and for the females was 21.5 (2 were aged 18, 2 were 25)

The youngest (of which there were 2) males were aged 13 and the oldest, again there were two, was 44.

If one looks at the height distribution, according to age, you get the following:

Age (males) Frequency Av height (cms) SD SEM Imperial
11-15 13 181 9.8 2.7 5'11"
16-20 25 181 8.6 1.7 5'11"
21-25 17 177 10.7 2.6 5' 9"
26-30 6 178 7.3 3.0 5'10"
31-35 2 177 ND ND 5'10"
36-40 4 177 ND ND 5'10"
41-45 3 183 ND ND 6' 0"

And this table looks awful in Preview mode of this post. How do I keep the formatting anybody? Sorry

Seems to me that we should all be frightened by a) how young a lot of these very clever posters to macrumors are and b) how tall they are! And they haven’t finished growing yet, not by a long way.

So I thank whomever it was who posted this thread originally. I was bored at the beginning and I am mind-numbingly bored now. But I have done my bit!!!! I think I am really losing the will to live.

Pity there wasn’t complete demographic information on all posters, but this is such an imperfect world, not so? I think I now want to go and swim with a few dolphins.

Cheers, everyone. Until the next post then!

Is there some good reason why your graph measures fifteen foot by thirty foot?

Nope. No good reason at all. I can only offer the excuse that I don't (as usual) know what I am doing (if you want to tell me how to import a pic properly, I shall gladly accept your advice); I bounced the Excel graph through Photoshop and then "saved for web" and that is how it all turned out. Similarly, how do I retain the formatting of tables and stuff.

Lord, it's been a long and dull day.

You're not, by any chance, related to Doctor Q, are you...?

;)

Please remind me; just who is Doctor Q??? Is he someone of whom I should be worried about being a point of comparison? It's all OK for people who are having real weather out in Norway, but when it is soooooo baking hot in New Zealand and the brain has turned to cotton-wool, these things strike home in a worrying way. Oh no. Time for another beer.

I don't think you have to be worried. Here's an example of the good doctor's work... :)

That's the FIRST thing I thought! :D

Nope. No relation. The world just throws up people like us from time-to-time. I think that we are essentially harmless. We (and I cannot really speak for Doctor Q, obviously) just need to be fed occasionally and sometimes patted on the head. Nothing demanding. Some people take drugs, others are riding in their own special ways to hell; me I just like numbers! Oh dear. Time for another beer.

Have a cookie, UKnjb. You deserve it. :)
