When I was young, I grew quickly to about 5'10" and then stayed there, and it seemed like I had reached my maximum height. Then, when I was 19, I broke my back from falling off a cliff while rock-climbing.
When I was rushed to the emergency room, they removed all the broken pieces of bone -- but I was told I wouldn't have a "spinal fusion" surgery for possibly several weeks. (My spine was literally in half that whole time, which was really weird). After my second surgery, and then several months of rehabilitation, I began to begin the process of learning how to walk again. (Originally the doctors said I'd probably be in a wheelchair my whole life, but I proved them wrong! I use forearm crutches to walk these days).
Anyway, by the time my height was measured again, maybe about 6-7 months later, I was suddenly 6'1"!! It seemed strange to me that I could shoot up three inches so quickly, and the only thing I could think of was that they made me taller somehow with my spinal fusion (they took bone from my hip and attached my spine together, while also placing two metal rods within to keep it steady while it healed and became part of my back). Anyway, I've been enjoying being taller all of these years (I'm 34 now). Though the last time I measured myself (earlier this year), I was just barely over 6 feet.
I don't really get the height fluctuations, but there you have it... my height.
