I mean when it is upright on a desk, not just length measurements for the screen. I am afraid that the 27'' might have put my current desk out of commission 🙁
..or at least the shelf on top that stabilizes it.

Apple says the screen is just under 52cm but doesnt list the overall height in the specs, I'd say there'd be 10cm at least on top of that between the stand and the screen - ~65cm would be my guess.

My Current 24" stand ~52cms from the desk to the top of the screen,
The Internet archive for July 2008 says that the 24" iMac was 52cms high, so I would bet that the 50.7 given in the new specs are the full height from the ground, not just the panel

You could actually be right about that. The 30'' display is 21.4'', and while it doesn't have the iMac's chin, it does have a taller panel. I guess we'll have to wait to know for sure.
The whole hight is in fact the 20.4 inch (51.7cm).. if you measure the width of the iMac in the picture and you measure the height, you can calculate that the height is 20.4 inch. They just screwed up with the image.. 🙂
