iOS How the hell do servers like haypi kingdom work?

there are some impressive mmo iphone games out there with servers and social networking but i have no clue how it works.


can someone be so kind as to explain this to a laymans person? I'm so curious but the internet jargon is too much when I try to read about it.

For the most part, this is probably just a nice GUI frontend to a web app.
