Dumb question, but I assume this keyboard will work in portrait mode. As long as there are enough magnets to suspend it, correct?

I have a 2018 12.9” iPad pro. Since the latest iPadOS update, I’ve been using my trackpad, which works very well. I’m typing on a 7 oz jelly comb foldable keyboard and use a muse case. I think this arrangement (portable keyboard, Apple trackpad) is better than the new magic keyboard will be, as the iPad is free and doesn’t have to be taken out of its case if I want to use it without a keyboard/mouse. It seems to work extremely well, and the keyboard only costs $27. Also, the keyboard can be used with almost any computer or tablet.

I just bought a refurb 2018 12.9" IPP from Apple. The Trackpad 2 works great with it. I just need to spend some time with it to get all the gestures down.

It is all how you use your iPad Pro. They are so adaptable, we can all use as we wish. If you are not happy removing from magic keyboard to use as tablet, then don’t get the magic keyboard. Personally I always remove the IPP when using portrait as tablet anyway, as often when I do, I am also scanning documents and you can’t do that with the keyboard folio case attached anyway. Also I hate the feel of the keyboard on the back and love the lightness of the device without case.

The great thing about the iPad Pro now is how many different use-cases it caters for. You can use it as a traditional tablet, there’s the pencil, the different folding keyboard options and now a proper laptop “case”/docking station for it.

Was very, very tempted by the magic keyboard for my 2018 11 inch but using the Magic Trackpad 2 with the folio keyboard has actually worked very well and proven to be an ideal desk based solution for me. I use my iPad a lot in portrait mode when travelling and, for me, having to remove it every time I did so would probably end up with reversion to the older keyboard or plain folio case.
However, good to see innovative design and makes me hopeful that down the line, when the 2021(?) IPP emerges, a developed version of the trackpad keyboard appears that meets more user needs.
