I'm working in Pages for the first time, and love it. However, when I try to add new text to a page, I don't seem to have the ability to add a frame to the text like many of the templates have. It ends up just being a block of white backdrop, and doesn't look very good. Is there any way to add my own frame around text? Thanks!

Note that there are two ways to use Pages.

1. "Word processor mode", which is what you get when you click inside the default text area and start typing. You can't add a border or object styles to this default text area.

2. "Page layout mode", which is what you get when you click outside the default type area (to get rid of the cursor), and then insert a floating text object. This text object can be moved, resized, and styled with borders, background colours, etc.
