I can turn on showing URL tooltips for links on hover somewhere deep in Settings (this is vital — I want to know what link I am going to click). I cannot install EFF Privacy Badger yet (I use it as my trusted adblock), but with the support of standard plugins I hope I will be able to, eventually.

But this pinch-to-zoom ignorance is a blocker for me.
Not exactly do deep, Shift-Command-7 switches the status bar, and there you see the links in lower left corner when you hover over them.
I agree about pinch-to-zoom(-out). Trouble is that when pinching out, you get the tabs expanded and a list of sites visited from iCloud or other continuity devices. When zooming in it does zoom in, but only on the Safari level, not translated into the local website. But I think it would be difficult for Apple to change this behaviour at this point.

People actually use Start Page? I've had Safari open straight to Feedly for like 7 or 8 years now. 🤷‍♂️

Nice, if only they could implement favicons for the favourites bar I would swap from Chrome. Seems petty but I have really gotten used to the little icons as a quick option to select a web page.

I think you will find Frequently visited is the Top Sites renamed.
At least for me it's a mirror image of what my Top Sites was.

No, it is NOT. You could bookmark sites to top sites & the windows were semi active as it took new shot of the webpage periodically so you see any updates at a glance. Now it's pathetic downgrade to just static icons & a **** ton of dead wasted space. Ooh wallpapers in a browser tab, REALLY PRODUCTIVE & USEFUL.

This was an awesome feature. Recently worked on an old non-updated Mac for a family member and got to see the glory that was Top Sites again.

It's a nice release for sure. I just wish a couple of older bugs would disappear before they did these cosmetic things. For example, trying to navigate search suggestions in the address bar with the keyboard arrows: it frequently jumps back up 1-2 rows just before you press enter. I've been experiencing this on 3-4 machines for years.

I also used Top Sites extensively for pages that I visit frequently, often multiple times a day. Pinning them on Top Sites kept them one click away and quick and easy to spot. Not having them there definitely impacts my work flow.

I also don't get why the Start Page is mostly white space on MacOS.

Sometimes I feel these updates are giving 10 things I don't need at the cost of loosing one that I do.

Find adding wallpaper makes safari load super slow now (even render start page). Had to take off the wallpaper.
