I’d like to know who’s Mac keyboard has the enter key like that.
Bristish keyboard. I inadvertently ended up with a MacBook Air with one since I didn’t pay enough attention to the used listing photos. It was a really good deal though so I probably would’ve gotten it anyway if I had noticed.

Edit: Turns out it’s used for a lot of other layouts, too. https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MXCJ3B/A/magic-keyboard-with-numeric-keypad-british-english

I don't understand why doesn't make finer-grained volume control the default. There are only 16 levels of volume (a jump of over 6% each click), and it's pretty easy in some situations like headphones or TV played over big speakers to find the volume you want is in between two clicks of the AirPods buttons or Apple TV remote clicker.

I use this all the time to adjust my RME interface because the default clicks are 6dB increments.

Nice tips : it also would be good to know how in the case of Apple Studio Display dual set ups, how & if it is possible to change brightness on both displays at the same time... ;)
Would love to know this along with how to increase audio at same time for Apple Studio Display dual set ups. Using Loopback currently but thought Apple would have a way to do this natively

It works with display brightness, too! Cool!

And something else I did not know: Option+Volume opens the Sound panel in System Settings. Option+Brightness opens Displays.

How do you use audio on both? I figured it'd be a mess for music. I have one display centered in front of me and the other one off to the side as a secondary.

For me - I'd just love to name each display separately. I never know which microphone I"m using for Teams/Zoom!

I think a lot of quirks on MacOS like this are because the designers assume you're just going to drag the disk to the trash to eject it rather than right-click.

In any case, it never made sense that to eject a disk or unmount it, you would drag it TO THE TRASH! Even though the icon changes, the action is illogical and unnerving.

Didn't Windows shut down computers by clicking on the Start button? Another ridiculous approach.

As bad as turning ON many cell phones by holding down the red OFF button!

What! I needed this so bad! Thank you... so many hidden tricks in MacOS. I've been a Mac user since the 90s, and I know many of these, but it's really cool that there are always new ones to discover.

Yep. I remapped my F5 and F6 using this method and it works awesome! (Who even uses dictation and do not disturb as they're easily accessible in the control center?) https://www.idownloadblog.com/2022/03/25/bring-back-keyboard-brightness/
All this time and I had no idea that this method existed. Thanks for sharing! I've been relying on the massively overkill method of using Karabiner Elements to accomplish this same thing because that was the only solution I had found which worked when Secure Input was active, particularly on the Lock Screen. This is much more elegant.

News to me. I was always annoyed by how big these steps were how I sometime had to the slider in iTunes to make it just so.

Thanks for the tip!

Thank you. This will come in handy when adjusting brightness for the calibration and profiling software I have for my displays.

Most people won’t use this excellent tip, but those of us who calibrate our monitors to edit photography and videography will use it a lot.

The volume meter in Windows has had 50 increments (using the keyboard) and 100 increments (using the mouse) for decades. And this is just one example among many.

Very cool tip! But: The only place I need such fine-grained control is when using my 2014 MBP to read before sleeping. There the "1" setting is too bright. And unfortunately, this tip doesn't work between 0 and 1; it remains at the same brightness until you hit zero.

I've tried 3rd-party screen dimmers, but they're buggy.

Had discovered this feature a year or so ago. Though I don't use this often, it has been very useful in certain situations.
