Coming from a trackpad to the MM2, i realize now i have taken pinch to zoom for granted.
Is there an easy solution to zooming with the MM2 that mimics pinch to zoom with trackpad?

  • NOT a solution: accessibility CMD + scroll to screen zoom. this zooms the whole screen which is not the equivalent of application zoom within its window. it's very clunky in safari and photos
  • NOT a solution: double tap magic zoom. this give very little control to the user and wont zoom photos in beyond pixel to pixel size.

Apple Maps has a great solution, HOLD SHIFT and finger scroll vertically and it ZOOMS. that's perfect, why is that not possible in other applications?

If you haven't already done so, go to SystemPreferences/Mouse/Point&Click and select "Smart zoom" which allows you to double tap to zoom a given block to full window width. Works with mouse and trackpad.

Also, go to SystemPreferences/Accessability/Zoom and select "Use scroll gesture...to zoom". It will allow you to zoom the entire window in and out while holding the "Control" key with either the mouse or trackpad.

Thanks, but those are the two solutions I listed in my post as not adequate. Smart zoom does not provide the control of pinch to zoom, and screen zoom zooms everything, not only within the application. The behaviour is very different and clunky.
