update from dev
Heard back from the dev recently, who said this:
---
Actually, I'm not sure whether I'll be releasing a version of my Archive plugin for Lion.
The new Mail.app already includes an archive button. If it's not visible on your toolbar, you can add it manually:
1) from the menu bar, click "View",
2) then click "Customize Toolbar...",
3) now look for the archive button (a box with an arrow) and drag it to your toolbar.
Apple's archive button isn't exactly like my archive button, but it is 90 percent there. They just need to include:
1) support for Gmail (already available on the iPhone),
2) a customizable destination mailbox (already provided for Sent, Junk, etc.),
3) a default keyboard shortcut (very very easy).
If you want Apple to include these features in the new Mail.app, you can ask them here:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/mail.html. It might take a while for Apple to implement your request, but I think it is the best long-term solution.
Keeping the plugin updated takes quite a bit of my time. Before Lion I didn't mind, because I used the archive button myself. But since Apple's new button does everything I need, I no longer have any reason to use or update my plugin.
I'm really glad that you and thousands of others have used and enjoyed my plugin, and I hope that Apple will add the missing features soon.
Best,
Steven
