Hi,

As you all know I have to have my Logic Board replaced once I get it up to Fry's but only after I have the case replaced due to the dented corner. I was not able to back up my files before it wouldn't turn on anymore. When I did take it to the Apple store the other day (when I found out it was the Logic Board that went) he said that it is possible to back up the thousands of photos I have and other documents because the logic board doesn't effect the ???can't remember what he said it was......how am I suppose to back up when I can't get my mac to turn on???

Sorry...I'm not all that technical unless I have someone walking me through the steps...I'm capable but not that knowledgeable with Macs...

Your best bet is to take out the original HDD and put in a new one; that way when you get your computer back, you can put the original HDD back in.

alphaod's suggestion is one solution, but... if you just want to back it up, you should be able to access the HD with Target Disk Mode

Of course, you will need another Mac to do this

Target disk mode is kinda worthless when the Mac won't boot. The best solution was already replied, buy another HDD and replace it when you ship it back, and replace it with your original one when you get it back.

What Macbook Pro do you have? I believe only the newer unibody MBPs have user serviceable hard drives while the older ones do not and could void your warranty if you replace it.
