i have an imovie project that i am working on that is about 8gb, and i would like to back it up onto dvd(s), but my drive doesn't support dual layer discs. is there any way in which i can do this? i.e. somehow split the file so it will fit across 2 dvds?

p.s. i want to keep the project file as it is a work in progress, therefore exporting as a quicktime movie will not do the job.

You could zip/compress the file from within the OS by right clicking it and choosing "Create Archive of ...." I'm not sure how much this will shrink your file, but it'll be considerable shrinkage.

Why not backup the 8gb file to an external rather than writing to a DVD? Is super portability a concern?

I would consider getting an external HD.

- Quicker backups

- Can reuse the space -- so you can backup more often.

- Saves time and $ in the long run.

Once the project is complete, you could then burn to DVD.
