    Hi,

I want to try to sell my early 2009 mac pro and a c2005 Powermac G5. ( and my '07, 09, and '11 MBPs!)

What should I do to prepare them for sale in terms of wiping my data and password from the hard drives yet making sure they have the most current as possible OSX and standard apps installed ( iLife, etc).

Should I remove my drives and buy fresh HDDs?

(I realize the G5 is very old, and I believe the last OS available for 2009 mac is sierra(?)

I likely have a few OS install discs on hand, but in recent years, all osx upgrades have been downloads.

If you can offer advice, with sepcific osx versions for each machine etc, i'd greatly appreciate it.

Erase the Drive 3 times over - and that will take care of any residual trash.

Then on the 2009 install El Capitan (Not Sierra) and let EC install the files it came with.
There is no need to insure they have the apps - the computer is old.

As for the G5 - I don't think you'll get much more than $50 for it - if you
can even find someone to buy it.

Just using disk utility to securely wipe the drives should be fine.

If you're feeling ambitious, you could buy new SSDs; but it's unlikely you'll make back your money.

No, don't spend money on new parts for an old computer you are going to sell.

Erase the drives with the secure erase option, that should be fine.

Honestly I don't think the computer is going to bring any more money if it has drives in it. When I buy used I just toss the drives that are in it anyway since I don't know anything about them.

I'd be interested in the G5 if it's a quad
