How to bring back Gapless Playback to iTunes?

This was already broken in version 11. However, we are on 12.5.4 now and still this feature is missing.

Any workaround at this point? How do you handle it? I can't stand listening to The Dark Side of the Moon on my iPod Video with 1-2 sec gaps between tracks. I hate it.

Songs are always gapless in iTunes in my experience, no issue with Dark Side of the Moon or other albums. Maybe something goes wrong when the songs are synced to the iPod?

Hmm... it's been a while since I listened to anything gapless, but you're right: On 12.6.1 there's a gap between tracks (when using known-good files). It's only a couple of hundred ms on my machine, not 1-2 seconds, but it's definitely noticeable

Edit: Hang on, you talk about iTunes and then mention an iPod. Is iTunes "breaking" the files when copied to your iPod? Do they play correctly in iTunes itself or are you getting the gap there too?
