how to burn a movie with Toast Titanium

I recently purchased Toast for my mac osx snowleopard system. being new to mac I thought that toast would work as easily and Convertxtodvd4 that was on my PC. Not so .... Every time I try to either convert of place a movie to burn in the proper area I receive an error code which says that the required codec is missing????
Can anyone help and old newbie here and pass on some information that will make this transition to mac from pc less painful?

What format is the movie you are converting then? Generally if a codec is missing you find out which one, then install it. On OS X a good component to have is Perian, which has most popular codecs rolled into it.
