How to change desktop icon

I recently saw a new hard drive icon I liked. First question is where do I find this one? (see attached image) and then how do I set it?

Make sure you are in the right finder view when you do this. I believe cover flow is the one...

I have tried changing the icons for OSX's stock programs, including the HD icon and cant seem to do it. I know how to change the icons it just isn't working. I'm wondering if it got blocked with a OSX update or something. Or the procedure on how to do it has changed.

I was just trying to use a .jpg and .png image to try it out.

I want to find the icon like the one I posted in the first post. No clue where to find it, no one seems to really know either unfortunately.

1. Double-click the .jpg or .png to open the pic in Preview.app
2. Command+C to copy the image from Preview
3. Right-click on Macintosh HD icon on the Desktop
4. Select "Get Info"
5. Click on the disk icon in the upper left corner of the Get Info window
6. Command+V to paste the copied image
7. Done

Also... That app is horrible, it develops an "error" after about 5 minutes... Won't work again till you restart...

There is a nice icon writer-free- that I found on the internet last night. It takes pictures, etc and turns them into icons for macs, windows and linux. give this a try:
