I just received a used iMac running El Capitan and I don't have a gear, or any other options that I can see to change the name.

Any suggestions on how to rename my Keyboard?
Right click to rename.

I just replaced my Wife's 2010 iMac with a new 4K iMac and used the setup MigrationAssist to restore the environment. After doing this, I see the new mouse and keyboard as connected in BluetoothPreferences, as well as the old named keyboard and mouse.

Right-clicking on the old names only brings up the option to "connect" along with the address. Clicking on the "X" at the right then attempts to Pair the no-longer available keyboard and mouse. There seems to be no way from this screen to delete the old entries for mouse and keyboard.

This is the same thing I get.

No idea of whether you're still looking for this or not, but here goes anyway...

El Capitan made it easier (believe it or not): Just open open up system preferences, and go into BlueTooth. There you will see your Bluetooth-connected devices. Secondary (right)-click on the device you wish to rename and give it whatever name you wanted.

For everyone complaining that right-click doesn't bring up the "Rename" option, try disconnecting the keyboard from the power cable.
