Hey guys.

I recently downloaded and installed Office for mac 2011. Unfortunately, i had already had a different version of office for mac that contained a different name (my friend's) who had licensed the product and registered for it. Now that i paid and have office for mac 2011, i'd like the product to be installed, licensed and registered under my name. unfortunately, i don't know how to change the name that says it's still registered to, when it should be registered to me now. any help?

thanks.

The file is ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.plist and the entry you want to edit is 14\UserInfo\UserName

for some reason when i access this file, it seems to be encrypted. does this have anything to do with it being a downloaded version of word 11? (a legal download.) or is there any other way to access it?

File not found

So I too have this problem and want to change the licence details, however I don't have that file at al, I have the PList Edit Pro utility to open the file but the closest file I have to that name is: com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist

I have totally reinstalled and renamed the above file (which was not deleted) however I still cannot see the file you posted and I still get the licence the same.

Help greatly appreciated.

you should look down the list and search for the file that was suggested. i don't really know why you don't have it, is it a legal version of office? i don't understand why you wouldn't have it, but if you find it, just highlight it on the utlility editor and change the name when you click on it

Thanks Cliff3 - it works very well. Now the user name on the opening screen is changed.

Can you help me with one more thing. I've changed the user name, but when I track changes in Word, the user name in these changes is still the old one. What should I do to see the new user name? Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

You may not be able to see your Library and thus cannot open the file.
Try the following

Open the Terminal app and type (without quotes) “chflags nohidden ~/Library/”. The Library folder will reappear in your user folder.

Registered user name

The file is ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.plist and the entry you want to edit is 14\UserInfo\UserName

I am trying to fix this problem on my IMAC running 10.6.8. I change the name but then it asks to save the untitled document. How do I replace the plist document in the preferences folder? Do I

delilili thank you. I'm comfortable w/i property file edits but i figured there U=HAD to be an easier way. Why it's not in the 'Properties' menus beats the heck out of me, but.. spot on easy. Thanks!
