How to change the default screenshot name

SL names screenshots something like 'Screen shot 2009-09-02 at 14.23.59’

How can I change this default name to something less cumbersome?

Automator workflow might be your best bet until the system utilities like Onyx are updated for Snow Leopard.

Onyx works fine, but its screen capture utilities don't appear to do the job you're looking for.

I use Tinkertool for that. It used to allow you to set the default screenshot name but does not anymore.
