There’s a white cable in the box but no way to plug it into the mains to charge my new 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max. Is this a mistake and Apple will send me the wall plug if I complain, or do they really think I’m going to charge it using my Dell laptop everyday?

I don’t really wanna carry a 16 inch laptop around to charge my phone.

any advice?

Obviously this is your first iPhone, and probably also your first interaction with USB chargers and cables. But fear not! The new iPhone 14 Pro Max carries a lifetime battery that never requires charging. The white cable you mention is for syncing the phone with your Windows PC.

Apple removed the charger about 2 years ago I think, in the name of the “environment”.

You need to grab either Apple official charger or third party charger, and that charger must have usb-c port.

I can afford to buy one obviously, but it makes me feel sick. I genuinely thought the plug wasn’t dropped into the box correctly at the factory. This is madness.

If a buy a MacBook Pro do they expect me to buy a plug for that too?

please tell me you’re joking? Apple wants to sell me a plug as an accessory for a $1500 device, so I can use that $1500 device?
LOL. Apple removed the chargers from the boxes way back in iPhone 12 (and then all iPhones). Don't tell me you don't know that nor read the box packaging contents and got "outraged" now... :D
Just go and buy a USB-C charger. You can spend $1500 on a phone, another $20-$30 wouldn't hurt.

Ugh it annoys me so much how this continues to go on so many years… at least give buyers a selection to get a FREE wall charger! So annoying.

I genuinely never thought to check the box to make sure an electronics device had the right plug inside. I just assumed it would, and it’s never been an issue that I can remember before with any gadget I bought.

I can absolutely afford to buy the accessory obviously, and I will buy the part, but I wanted to make sure first if I was entitled to a plug for free.

i would be less annoyed if it was really clear to me before I bought the phone. as has been pointed out, buying a plug after splurging $1500 on a phone is not the end of the world…. but it doesn’t feel good as a customer to be surprised like this.

Valid points, however I’m sure _tons_ of people don’t view or click that “what‘s in the box” area, or put 2 and 2 together when purchasing iPhones.

I don’t consider myself “tech savvy,” but sometimes it occurs to me how much less tech savvy so many others are (I’m not including or criticizing the OP by the way, I think it’s crazy they don’t include a USB C to A adapter at minimum)

if it becomes common place that a lot of companies start doing this, then human behaviour will adjust to checking the small print.

Apple did it behind their usual virtue armor, claiming that it was for the environment, so that if you complain, you're the ultra right-wing climate-killing monster.

They push many of their policies forward this way, and they are able to manipulate many people and induct them to become mindless defenders of these policies.

—^ Yep this is what makes it so egregious, they should at minimum give you a wall plug. This is what their 1990s or whenver “think different” slogan has deteriorated into, this type of petty greenwashing.

Im tempted just to threaten to send it back to see what they’ll do if they don’t give me a free plug. Anyone tried that?
I’d be interested in their response if you do, but sadly I suspect it’s ~99% likely they just accept your return, if you’re within the 14 day return window.

I will do it and update the thread. Losing a sale probably worth $750 in pure profit to avoid sending a free plug that probably costs them less than a dollar to make…. 😂

fyi, samsung no longer includes a power adapter with their phones either. So them plus Apple covers about 65 percent of phones sold in the US. Pixels still come with an adapter but Google has mentioned that is “temporary” and they intend to stop shipping them included as well.

If this were my grandma, I can understand. But this is someone who visited a tech forum, and an Apple focused one at that, with nearly hundreds of threads and posts about the lack of chargers being an issue for the last 2 years. Can't blame Apple for own's ignorance.

Besides, whenever I visited an Apple reseller here, the sales rep always asked any iphone buyer if they want to buy a charger.
