Reason im hammering it today is because I am downloading starcraft II (legally) from their site. The game is 7GB.

My traffic is minimal most of the time.

Consider using a download manager to throttle your bandwidth utilization...

Well other than downloading the new Starcraft......how about a long distance relationship?

We all know how much Skype use is needed in those situations! How else are you going to fap?

You do know that there are college IT people who read these forms?

The majority of IT people suck. Their purpose is to serve users, but so many I've dealt with are arrogant and lazy. They should be able to beef up the network architecture enough to offer high (if not limitless) bandwidth/speed caps. [/rant]

Anyways, to back up my previous post, this is over wifi (5Ghz wireless-N):

There have to be a ton of open wi-fi networks around if you are on a major college campus. Perhaps for large downloads you could try Starbucks, a library, or friend's apartment?

It sounds like you have no idea how much enterprise grade network equipment and quality servers cost

Sounds like you havent seen the cost of tuition in a while...

$536 a credit here.

$2900 to live with 3 other people for 4 months.

$1450 to eat 10 times a week.

And what does that have to do with the cost of quality hardware?

I pay a hell of a lot to go to school, they have enough money to upgrade the network. I average $11,000 a semester, multiply that by like 2,400 on campus students plus the 4,000 off campus and they have enough. You act like colleges are poor.

Most of that tuition, etc. goes to pay for things which matter to your education. Salaries for teaching and support staff, cost of building and maintaining facilities, etc...

Believe me - the last thing which universities are in these days of reduced government funding is rich. Making do - yes - but certainly not rich.

Oh yes, my school is so god awful poor. Teachers do not need a raise every semester, the President does not need $100k+ a year. Get with it, seriously. Just because you are CEO or something, how in the hell does that mean you deserve a million dollar salary? Or a pro athlete, million dollar contracts? The money system is so ****ed up anymore its ridiculous.

My cost per credit has increased over $50 in 2 years, this year they closed the library on saturday. You go by the library on saturday and EVERY LIGHT IS ON, ALL DAY. They also run fountains all over campus. Its cool how I pay more and get less every time I come back here. AND I STILL HAVE NO WIRELESS IN MY DORM. A college shouldnt need increased government funding to survive, cut the pay and deal with it or you are going to start losing students. Want to know a funny thing, I am at a tech college and I pay more in tuition than PENN STATE MAIN CAMPUS. So damn tired of everyone trying to say the school is broke, ITS NOT. Its the morons who run them that put money where it isnt needed. Not to mention everything is overstaffed.

Needed:
-Library on saturday
-Main cafeteria open past 3pm

Not Needed:
-Landscaping along sidewalks
-Fountains running
-Lights on in a closed building
-30 people running a cafeteria when 5 could do the same thing

Back on topic, I dont have wireless because the school is "upgrading" supposedly. They had 4 months in the summer to upgrade. Our internet fluctuates from 5mpbs down to 35mbps down to just plain doesnt work. The only thing reliable at this school is the fact you will get screwed harder the next time you come back.

I love reading these posts where people want to do something that is "Against the Rules" and there is a vicious response from the broad community telling them how they shouldn't be doing this or trying to get around that.

My God, they seem to feel that they are defenders of the IT realm and that only them and their high-brow morals are standing in the way of absolute anarchy and chaos.

If your school wanted you to have more than 2GB per day, they would have designed it that way. Or if Apple wanted you to do X, they would have made it that way. So don't fight the system, don't fight the man, and by God, don't fight your IT department. Utter *********.

If a person asks for advice and you don't agree with what they are trying to do, don't respond.

If a person is asking for information that is something you feel is a grey area and you know the answer or have suggestions, provide insight with a possible warning of the possible negative outcomes.

But don't be an IT cock-blocker.
