i'm currently trying to find a inexpensive way to connect my gamecube (and perhaps a ps2) into my macbook without the use of an eye tv. right now, my search hasn't been successful, so i'm asking now if there is a way to connect the cube so that i could record the footage to the macbook besides the eyetv. thanks.

You are going to need some sort of hardware device from Elgato, Pinnacle, or Miglia...I don't think any of the are "cheap." Guess you might be able to take the long way around through a camcorder (many have aux inputs)...
