Dear friends, hello!
Thinking about the new iPad Pro 12.9 with magic keyboard. Help me, please, to understand how to correctly use this device and may this device satisfy all my needs?
Now I am using my MS Surface Pro X for everyday work (hundred emails (MS Outlook), different types of docs, social networks, messengers, etc.) and iPhone 11 Pro Max for calls.
What I like about Surface Pro X? Only full Ms Office 365 with easy text formatting and amazing easy work with files. That's all. Browsing is sluggish, lcd screen is not super (dead pixels, etc.). Though it has LTE, but connection is not always on, system is a little sluggish too.
On my iPhone 11 Pro Max I don’t know how convenient to work with files, how to do quick formatting, adjustments, archive, edit, etc.
Is it possible to do it all on iPad Pro? Or the system (iPad OS) is still far in these parameters from a full-fledged Windows?
Many thanks!

You may want to wait for reviews on the upcoming mouse support on iPadOS. Being able to use the cursor is crucial to editing text.

If you need a transparent file system, you will be aggravated and frustrated with iPadOS. If you need full Office program capabilities, ditto. I have a Surface Go, a Surface 3, an iPad Pro 11 and an iPad Pro 10.5.

Thanks very much. Am I right, that there are no variants to use it the same (work with files)?

Files is more of a way to aggregate all your various document containers in one place.

Where are your work documents normally stored? Flash drive? Cloud storage?

Personally, I have never grown comfortable working with office documents on my iPad Pro. You are still better off with a conventional PC in this regard.

Office 365 is still not a full implementation on the iPad, e.g. no support for macros in Excel. Your functional needs may not be impacted but you best check the Microsoft site for details to make your needs are covered.

I will need a bit more details than that. In terms of social networks and messengers the iPad Pro would work fine. Except Instagram. The application is not optimized for the iPad display so it is kind of weird. It is tolerable.

What kind of documents you work with? What manipulations you are expected to do? How do you process your emails? I mean for example I sometimes send my emails in OneNote. Overall I rely on integration between Outlook and OneNote for work and I cannot do this on iOS.

Without the trackpad text formatting is like PITA on iOS and iPadOS. I do not have trackpad hooked to my iPad to tell you how it is now.

What Office 365 subscription you have? Have in mind that not every subscription allows you to edit documents on tablets above 9.7 inch. I assume if it worked for the Surface Pro X, it would work for the iPad Pro 12.9 inch but still check to be sure.

That's because Apple made it worse. 🤷

As a teacher, I've had only 2 or 3 students using Surface devices over the years. Ironically, two selling points of the early models were actually things students didn't like. For one thing, they hated the touch interface on Office on Surface devices. They said Numbers, Pages, and Keynote were much better for using by touching the screen on an iPad. The other ironic thing was that Microsoft touted the use of flash drives, but most young people don't. As a 39-year old, I haven't used one in almost 10 years.

The iPad pro with keyboard doesn't work for my needs, but it can probably be great for many. Personally, the keyboard feels more like a dock than a case. My cousin ordered it, and I'll hear feedback soon.
