how long do you want to swipe through it for?..
As long as I want to. Why limit it?

Why limit anything on what you can put anywhere on any screen? It's just limitation for limitation's sake. And I'm a software developer, so you can't tell me that such a thing is difficult to do, it's child's play.

so as a developer tell me, is a widget of that sort more likely to glitch out when more and more slides are added to it? not being a smart ass, just asking as a non-developer :)

Does anyone else miss the days when the interface wasn’t so confusing that you didn’t need extensive instructions to walk you through steps and hidden interface elements to figure out how to do stuff?
So basically you nag apple for years for new features (widgets, homescreen redesign) and now they re too complicated for you... Drastic changes always have a Lil learning curve are you that lazy u can't even learn something new and be better for it. UNBELIEVABLE

what are you having trouble adding? I have 10 here. Is it not the same on iPadOS?
There are differences, such as I do not get the fitness app. The edit and pin options only appears in landscape mode; which is confusing as well.

I never nagged apple for these things, maybe youre confusing me with someone else?

I have to admit, I saw people make mockery of Apple by announcing amazing new features on their iOS all the while it has been on Android for years, but with the widgets, I have to agree with them. This has been for many years on Android.

I still think we don't need walk throughs like this. it's pretty basic.

Actually there is a lot of hidden menus and gestures, it gets complicated. Thats a far cry from Apple's strategy from using 1 button mouse because it makes the user less confused on which button to press.

Yeah I honestly didn’t pay much attention because when I installed it on my iPad Pro I was so underwhelmed that I didn’t even play with it much.

Yea, I mostly played with it as a result of the article.

I was more intrigued by the pencil input option, which has generally been underwhelming most of the time and downright frustrating the rest.

I have been searching for the holy grail of digital text input and HWR for many years. I like MontBlanc's Augmented Paper approach since I can keep a written copy as well; but if you forget to tell it you turned a page the digital copy is messed up. The HWR is good but the app a bit buggy.

Notability on the iPad is pretty darn good as well, my main gripe is the iPad just doesn't replicate the quality pen on paper feel when writing.

Of course, my handwriting is so bad it's amazing anything is recognized. What I really need is fast and accurate voice to text conversion.

It would only glitch out if something in the OS is horrendously badly designed. Otherwise, you'd just add the widgets to a built in collection object (I'm using generic terms here, nothing language specific), which would be the same built in collection object that is used for other purposes, such as storing all the apps you download, so no extra work should be required for that part, and extend your display behaviour of the UI to deal with a large collection of widgets.

Now of course, I haven't seen the iOS source code, so there may be issues I can't see, such as some badly designed limitations from iOS 1.0, but if that's the case, that part should be re-written and fixed.

i see. what about the ability to put a folder of apps inside another folder of apps, would that be possible? 'cause i really wish we could do that...

Yeah same thing, it's just a collection object inside a collection object. The OS needs to have presentation logic for each of the layers. There is nothing especially difficult about multiple nested layers of collections of objects.

Manners are pretty basic. And yet, many people still need gentle walk through reminders every so often.

Not everyone frequents MacRumors and the like. There are many older and younger who have never had an iPhone, or are not tech savvy. Articles like this are good primers for helping one feel more comfortable with technology.

The first thing i ALWAYS do.. Turn off all widgets. What a crap design. Nothing new at all..
The word “always” has the same meaning even when you yell the word at us.

Not everyone will like the new OS. That is a given. You can always stick with iOS 13 or go play with Android flavor of the month.

So why can I not select 3rd party widgets (Google maps, Windey etc)? They are still in the Today View (far left screen), or have I missed something??
