How to customize Keys in Full size Magic Keyboard?

Just got the space gray keyboard but have no clue how to customize the F keys F13-F19. Can anyone help? Apple made this confusing. I want to be able to press F19 and get the Calculator app to come up on screen. Stuff like that. When I program things in Keyboard settings, nothing happens just an error ding.

Usually this sort of thing requires the use of Automator. Here's a quick rundown of how to create a shortcut to open the calculator. It'll work for any app.

It worked! Thank you. It makes an error ding sound when the calculator opens. any way to make it be silent?
