I've been using the beta for 24 hours now, and I have to say, it's one of the best iOS updates in recent memory. I love almost everything except for the notifications coming through on the bottom. I don't know if it's something I'll get used to, but I hate it right now.

You're lucky they didn't make it come in vertically from the left.

Or rather it's a design meant so that people can enjoy the background picture selected.
I’m sure many people would like to enjoy their background pictures. But for me, and I’m sure I’m not alone as I can’t be the only “productivity first” person here, I use a black background wallpaper and I’d like to maximize the number of widgets I use.

I'm sure a lot of the drama is due to it being Beta1...but the Home Screen is all but forgotten...its a tad clunky to try and customize the background after you select the Lock Screen.
This. Paragraphs and paragraphs from Apple and article after article from everyone about the Lock Screen. Glad it’s getting some attention, sure. But not one word about the Home Screen, which is still stuck a decade in the past.

Speaking of stuck a decade in the past, remember when people used to make fun of Android users “really needing to see the time” with the enormous time on the lock screen? Yeah…

I wish you could add a few more widgets.
I wonder if the black and white photo filter is intended to preserve battery life. I've been told the OLED display uses less energy to display black and white since the black pixels don't turn on.

only thing im not liking is how notifications are on the lock screen now. Very weird being at the bottom and only seeing 1 at a time.

Hopefully adding all these features to the Lock Screen will not decrease battery life by much

I’m finding the whole thing a little bit confusing.

I like the new focus mode features and have setup 3 focuses. 1 for work, personal, and sleep.

Each focus mode has a dedicated Lock Screen and Home Screen. Each is activated by a time or location.

However, in the settings app - there is the wallpaper section. When I go in there it show the wallpaper for a none focus mode situation. It doesn’t let me change it and just prompts me to customize my Lock Screen.

I’m fine with this because I’m always in focus now. Which I love. However, for some reason my Home Screen wallpaper is now synchronized with my Lock Screen wallpaper and cannot be changed. I don’t like Home Screen wallpapers. I just want black.

Anyone know how to set only the Home Screen wallpapers?

Also, assuming that this is getting things ready for an always-on display for the next iPhone, many people are going to want that black lock/home screen to [theoretically] minimise the impact on battery life.

Well, there are plenty of options available and you can customize it the way you want to. I'm sure Apple will be offering more font selection in future beta releases. This is just beta 1. Long way to go!
”More font selection” doesn’t really fall in the Apple M.O. I’ll believe it when I see it, but I expect they will stretch the existing watchOS fonts out over a few years so they can have ”new fonts” on every major iOS release. They don’t WANT to give us options but they will slightly bow to overwhelming pressure from the users.

Still it’s sort of a mess when you go to wallpapers in system preferences. Hope it gets sorted out in subsequent betas. And allow me a smaller font for the time please!!!
Sorry, Apple knows best. You don't know what works for you like Tim Apple does.

Eventually every time you swipe, tap, touch, long touch, shake, tilt, breathe, don't breathe, fall, stand up, look, wink, fart...some gesture is gonna get triggered.
If farting triggers a gesture on your phone, you are *definitely* holding it wrong.
