Is there a program which allows you to trim or cut down videos?

So like cut out a part of a video clip that I want and save that.

Can you do it with iMovie? If so how? I have no clue how to use the program.

Thanks for any help in advance :)

QuickTime X (Snow Leopard) has a trim function. Alternately, (and/or if you only have Leopard), QuickTime Pro can trim, copy, paste clips.

You can also import it into iMovie, but there's just more overhead in doing so for a quick edit.

iMovie is able to do what you want.
Here is Apple's official representation which also has some tutorial videos on it: http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/

But know that iMovie does not accept every file (suffix and code, eg. .avi with Divx/Xvid codec) in every resolution.

QuickTime Player X (the on that came with Snow Leopard) is able to trim the videos it can read. Perian might be of help to let QT Player read more video formats.
