How to cut scenes from a movie?

I want to cut or delete some very graphic scenes from a .avi movie and I don't know what program should I use or how to do it. Any suggestions?
I'm using Mac OS 10.5.8

Why

Instead of butchering a directors vision, why not watch a PG movie, or just don't let the kids watch said "graphic" movie, period. 😉

But really, upgrade your QT to Pro, very much worth it!
