I might take the plunge and upgrade 4,1 2x 2,26 to dual hex CPUs. From what I have read it's been fewer issues with de lidded CPUs.. I. Have seen some videos online...not sure I want to take the plunge. Looking to buy a de lidded upgrade or can pay for the service which will probably be cheaper than me destroying a CPU
Thanks

This is about as good as you're going to get with de-lidded CPUs. I purchased some locally for a client and did his upgrade. I can vouch that the de-lidded Xeons made the upgrade much LESS of a hassle, but even locally, the prices were comparable to the ones here. It's not a common service or even a common product, for that matter, plus, I'm sure you've read that you can damage your CPU. You're making a good call on buying them pre-de-lidded (wow, those hyphens) rather than trying to do it yourself.

When I ran your search, one guy had a pair of de lidded 3.46's for $550. That's not bad for de-lidded as I paid $240 a pop for the lidded ones. (got a 5.1 so didn't have to de-lid).

The 09 Mac Pro with dual processors used specially sourced Xeons from intel without the integrated heat spreader (IHS). Installing them with that "lid" on runs the risk of overheating the processor.

Oh, okay. I did not know this. Thanks!
