How to delete a 3rd party menu bar icon?

I have LogMeIn installed on my mac for use with the iPhone app and I'd like to have the server app on my mac running all the time.

I don't like the menu bar icon being visible all the time though ... Any way to delete it (note there isn't an option to hide it in the app's preferences ..)

Command drag-drop is only applicable to system menu icons, such as volume, battery, etc. Not for third-party.

Only way I can think of is to edit the icon, inside the app package, and replace it with a totally transparent icon.
